TOMATO SALAD WITH JAPANESE MUSTARD DRESSING

I don’t know if I can name this recipe as a Japanese dressing...

BUT, this is something what I often make when the tomato starts to be in abundant.



It’s based on mustard and vinegar, but adding splash of soy sauce for a nice umami kick!

It is very refreshing and whipped up in 2mins!




All the ingredients should be widely available in any country, so please give a shot!



I realize I have been posting more than 5 different kind of dressing recipes!

Should I make a video about that?? It’s such a lovely salad season if you are living in northern hemisphere.

<TOMATO SALAD WITH JAPANESE MUSTARD DRESSING>

▶Vegetarian / Gluten free / Vegan(See Miwa's tip for vegan modification)



<Yield> 2 servings


<Cook time> 0 min


<Ingredients>

1-2 large tomatoes

¼ of onion


Dressing

1 tbsp of grain mustard

1 tsp of honey

2 tbsp of wine vinegar

1 tsp of soy sauce

2 tbsp of olive oil


<Optional toppings>

fresh basil

black pepper


<Directions>


1: Slice onion thinly and soak in a water for 5mins to remove the pungency of onion.




2: Mix all the dressing listed above. Slice tomatoes and place them on your serving plate.





3: Drain 1 and off the excess moisture. Mix sliced onion and dressing. Drizzle over the sliced tomatoes and garnish some herb and black pepper if you want! Ready to be enjoyed!





<Miwa’s tips>

・Wine vinegar is much sweeter than any other kind of vinegar. If you are substituting to any other vinegar such as apple cider vinegar, adjust the taste by adding very small amount of honey.


・If you are not sensitive to onion pungency, skip the water soaking process.


・Other than tomato, you can use leafy green, corn, cucumber, avocado, beans, etc.

Basically the combination for this dressing recipe is endless!

・If you are looking for a gluten free diet, use Tamari soy sauce!


・Vegan option→ Swap honey for sugar or agave syrup

Store it in a air-tight container in the fridge for 1week.
